Oncology Nursing Society Honors Northwell Nurses
Nurses at Northwell's Monter Cancer Center received the society's 2019 Employer Recognition Award.

The Long Island/Queens Chapter of the Oncology Nursing Society recently honored nurses at Northwell's Monter Cancer Center with its 2019 Employer Recognition Award.
Forty-five nurses from the cancer center joined their nurse colleagues from other institutions in the region for an evening of celebration, education and networking on March 6 at the 15th Annual Kay O’Brien Memorial awards, according to a news release.
“We are incredibly grateful to be acknowledged the recipient of the 2019 ONS employer recognition award,” Ms. Gleason said. “The award reflects our professionalism and commitment to the entire oncology nursing team at the cancer center. Those include infusion nurses, practice nurses, research nurses and nurse navigators who consistently demonstrate the highest standards of quality care and teamwork to create an extraordinary employee and patient experience.”

The award is given annually to a cancer facility for its outstanding initiatives in promoting professional development and educational opportunities for its oncology nurses.
“Our nurses have an overwhelming sense of pride in everything they do,” said Ms. Gleason. “We put our patients first, but in order to do that we support our nurses by seeking input and ideas from our team to drive education, innovation and change.”
