Alzheimer's Association offers virtual programs in March

Educational and social webinars offered for the general public, people with dementia and their family caregivers

The Alzheimer’s Association Long Island Chapter will host the following virtual events via Zoom in March. To register for any of these programs, call the Alzheimer’s Association at 800.272.3900 or click the program name to register online.

Living with Alzheimer’s for Caregivers-Middle Stage — Part 1 will be held from noon to 1:30 p.m. Tuesday, March 2. This program offers helpful strategies for providing safe, effective and comfortable care in the middle stages of Alzheimer’s.

10 Warning Signs of Alzheimer’s will be held 11 a.m. to noon. Wednesday, March 3. Learn about typical age-related changes, common warning signs of Alzheimer’s, how to approach someone about memory concerns and Alzheimer’s Association resources.

Community Forum will be held from 1-2 p.m. Sunday, March 7. This event is for the Holy Cross Lutheran Church and the Ronkonkoma community.

Living with Alzheimer’s for Caregivers: Middle Stage — Part 2 will be held from Noon to 1:30 p.m. Tuesday, March 9. This program offers helpful strategies for providing safe, effective and comfortable care in the middle stages of Alzheimer’s.

Healthy Living for Your Brain and Body: Tips from the Latest Research will be held from 2-3 p.m. Wednesday, March 10. This program provides information on diet, nutrition, exercise, cognitive activity and social engagement. Get hands-on tools to develop a plan for healthy aging.

Caring Connections will be held from 2-3 p.m. Wednesday, March 10. A free virtual social program for people in the early stage of dementia and their primary caregivers featuring a live-guided crafting activity.

Virtual Health and Wellness Fair will be held from 11 a.m. to noon Friday, March 12. The Alzheimer's Association Long Island Chapter will offer a free Virtual Health and Wellness fair.

Dementia Conversations will be held from noon to 1 p.m. Friday, March 12. Get helpful tips to assist with difficult dementia-related conversations, such as going to the doctor, deciding when to stop driving and making legal and financial plans.

Legal and Financial Planning Conference: Day 1 will be held from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Monday, March 15. Get information on legal and financial issues to consider before an Alzheimer’s diagnosis and how to put plans in place for the future.

Effective Communication Strategies will be held from 6-7 p.m. Wednesday, March 17. Learn to decode verbal and behavioral messages delivered by someone with dementia and identify strategies to help you connect and communicate at every stage of the disease.

Understanding and Responding to Dementia-Related Behavior will be held from 6-7:30 p.m. Tuesday, March 23. Behavior is one of the primary ways people with dementia communicate their needs and feelings once the ability to lose language is lost. Learn to decode common behaviors so you can connect at every stage of the disease.

Living with Alzheimer’s for Younger Onset will be held from 3:30-5 p.m. Wednesday, March 24. Hear from those directly affected and learn how to ease the impact throughout the course of the disease.

Understanding Alzheimer's and Dementia will be held from 1-2 p.m. Thursday, March 31. Learn about the impact of Alzheimer’s, the difference between dementia and Alzheimer’s, disease stages and risk factors, research, treatments and Alzheimer’s Association resources.
