Police ID Motorcyclist Critically Hurt In Dix Hills L.I.E. Crash

A motorcyclist did not slow for traffic and rear-ended a vehicle, police say. The lanes were closed for hours but have reopened.

DIX HILLS, NY — A motorcyclist was seriously injured in a crash that closed all four westbound lanes of the Long Island Expressway in Dix Hills on Friday morning, Suffolk police said.

Leon Bassene, 41, of Brentwood, was riding a 2021 Suzuki motorcycle westbound on the Long Island Expressway when he did not slow for traffic and struck the back of a 2014 Nissan at 6:22 a.m., police said.

Bassene was admitted to a nearby hospital in critical condition, police said.

The Nissan driver, a 39-year-old Central Islip man, who was alone in the car, was not injured, police said.

Lanes reopened around 10 a.m., according to police. The vehicles were impounded for safety checks.
