Man Accused Of Promoting Melville Fight Club Arrested: Police

The fight club had been held Sunday, police say. It was promoted on social media, sparking community complaints, the department said.

MELVILLE, NY — A man accused of promoting a fight club contest in Melville on Sunday was arrested on Wednesday, Suffolk police said.

Joseph Cassese, 22, of East Northport, was charged with obstructing governmental administration, unlawful assembly, criminal nuisance and disorderly conduct, police said.

Two Northport men had been ticketed in connection with participating in the fight club earlier in the week, police said. Approximately 70 people attended the fight club, held at Walt Whitman Park, at 2559 New York Avenue, police said. The fight club had been advertised on social media, prompting community complaints, police said.

Cassese was released on a desk appearance ticket and is scheduled to be arraigned at First District Court in Central Islip on a later date.
