Man Killed In Suffolk Crash

The man was driving when he rear-ended a box truck parked on a shoulder early Thursday, police say.

MELVILLE, NY — A man died in a crash in Melville on Thursday morning, Suffolk police said.

Steven Zaug, 35, of Massapequa Park, was driving a 2011 Mitsubishi northbound on Route 110 when his vehicle struck the back of a 2016 Isuzu box truck that was parked on the shoulder at Ruland Road at 4:03 a.m., police said.

Zaug was pronounced dead at the scene. The driver of the box truck, a Medford man, was not injured.

Motor Carrier Safety Section officers inspected the box truck. The Mitsubishi was impounded for a safety check. Detectives are asking anyone with information on the crash to contact the Second Squad at 631-854-8252.
