Melville Physician Honored As Jewish American Of Distinction
Dr. Stuart Lichtman is a nationally-recognized physician who specialized in geriatric and gynecologic oncology.

DEER PARK, NY — Dr. Stuart Lichtman of Melville was recognized as Legislator Tom Donnelly's Jewish American of Distinction for 2025, Donnelly's office announced.
Lichtman was presented with a special proclamation during the Jewish American Heritage Celebration at the H. Lee Dennison Building in Hauppauge.
Lichtman is a nationally-recognized physician who specialized in geriatric and gynecologic oncology during a long distinguished career that included faculty roles at Weill Cornell and Memorial Sloan Kettering, where he served as an attending physician. A graduate of RPI and Mount Sinai, he has authored more than 200 peer-reviewed articles, contributed to numerous medical texts and presented his work in 22 countries.

He is a Fellow of the American Society of Clinical Oncology, a past president of the International
Society of Geriatric Oncology and the recipient of the ASCO B.J. Kennedy Award for Excellence in Geriatric Oncology.
Outside of medicine, Lichtman is an avid genealogist who has traced his family roots to 18th-century Poland and Ukraine. He built a family tree of more than 2,000 relatives and cataloged more than 250K photographs.

He contributed to the JewishGen Memorial Plaque Project at the Melville Jewish Center where he and his wife, Gwen, a former president of the synagogue who has held many leadership roles there, are active members.
"Dr. Lichtman represents the very best of what it means to lead a life of purpose, scholarship and service," Donnelly stated in a news release. "His contributions to medicine, his commitment to Jewish heritage and his role as a community and family leader make him a truly outstanding choice for Jewish American of Distinction. I’m proud to recognize him for all he has accomplished."
The Suffolk County Legislature established the Jewish American of Distinction program to honor outstanding community members during Jewish American Heritage Month. Each legislator selects one honoree from their district, and all 18 were recognized at the May 7 ceremony.
