Record Number of UPK Placements in Half Hollow Hills
District provides fully funded pre-kindergarten experience to a new record of 329 students.

Last school year (2022-2023) the Half Hollow Hills Central School District received an increase in funding for their UPK (Universal Pre-Kindergarten) program, enabling them to provide a record number of 242 UPK placements to four-year-olds throughout the community. The district was able to secure these placements by partnering with three local community-based organizations (REACH, Alternatives for Children, and The Chai Center) and selecting students via a lottery system.
This year, the district received notification that the funding for UPK had been increased again, enabling them to provide a fully funded pre-kindergarten experience to a new record for the district of 329 students. The community-based partners this year have grown to include REACH (housed in the district’s elementary schools), Alternatives for Children, The Chai Center, Temple Beth Torah, Park Shore and The Little Playhouse.
“We are delighted to have the opportunity to offer this experience to so many families in our community, providing our youngest learners with a wonderful foundation prior to kindergarten,” said Diana Ketcham, assistant superintendent for elementary education in Half Hollow Hills.
