RV Crashes Into Suffolk Dry Cleaner; 2 Injured

The business was significantly damaged in the crash.

MELVILLE, NY — An RV crashed into a Melville dry cleaner this weekend.

The vehicle crashed into Nami Shirt & Laundry Services on Walt Whitman Road around 1 a.m. Saturday, public information officer Steve Silverman said. The crash caused significant damage to the building and resulted in the closure of traffic on northbound Route 110 for several hours, according to Silverman.

A man was driving the RV when it veered off the road and crashed into the building, Suffolk police said.

The driver and another man in the RV were taken to Huntington Hospital with injuries that were not life-threatening, police said. No one else was injured.

The Melville Fire Department responded with two ambulances, two engines, heavy rescue and special operations trucks under the direction of Melville FD Chief William Schmitt, as well as assistant chiefs Jason Bernfeld, Don Barclay and David Kaplan.

Technical Rescue Units from the Huntington Manor, Bethpage and Massapequa fire departments were called for assistance, as crews from Plainview, Farmingdale and Syosset fire departments provided standby coverage.

PSEG and National Grid responded to shut the utilities. The Town of Huntington Building Inspector and Fire Marshal checked the damage, and the South Huntington Water District was notified of a broken hydrant. Suffolk Fire-Rescue Coordinators provided help.
