'It Was Truly A Miracle:' Driver Escapes Injury In Overturn SUV Crash

The only injury she received was a small cut from crawling out the window.

The driver of an SUV said it was a miracle she came out almost unscathed after her vehicle crashed into a tree and overturned in Dix Hills on Saturday afternoon.

According to fire officials, the crash occurred on Melrose Road shortly after 5 p.m. The driver was able to self-exit from the vehicle and was transported to Huntington Hospital via the Dix Hills Rescue Squad with non-life threatening injuries.

The driver told Patch she only injury she received was when she slightly cut her knee while crawling out the window.

"When they took the full body CAT scan all they found was a post nasal drip (unrelated obviously)," she said. "It was truly a miracle."

Dix Hills firefighters responded to the crash and applied an absorbent to the road for a fuel spill. An ambulance, heavy rescue truck and paramedic unit were on the scene.

All units were under the direction of Chief Tom Napolitano and Second Assistant Chief Joe Williamson.

Suffolk Police second precinct and an Emergency Service unit were also on the scene.
