17-Year-Old Shot To Death In Manhattan, Police Say

The child succumbed to his injuries on Wednesday, police said.

EAST HARLEM, NY — A 17-year-old boy was pronounced dead on Wednesday after a shooting in East Harlem, New York City Police Department officers said.

Chance Leggett, the victim, was shot in the head back on Saturday, May 17 at 4:48 p.m. in front of 151 East 115th St., which is near the corner of Lexington Avenue, not far from his home on 105th Street.

Medics rushed the victim to NYC Health + Hospitals/Harlem in critical condition, where he succumbed to his injuries on Wednesday and was pronounced dead by medical staff.

A day after the shooting, the NYPD arrested and charged a Bronx-based 19-year-old named Jermaine Vanderhorst with attempted murder and criminal possession of a weapon.

The investigation into the killing is ongoing, police said.
