One officer shot his gun, and both pursued the suspects on foot, according to NYPD officials. Two teenage boys — a 15-year-old and an 18-year-old — were taken into custody.

The 15-year-old was shot in the left leg and taken to NYC Health + Hospitals/Harlem in stable condition. Another 15-year-old boy, believed to be part of the shootout, was also shot in the knee and taken to Harlem Hospital in stable condition, officials said.

Investigators are still working to determine whether either teen was struck by police gunfire. Both officers involved were taken to a hospital for evaluation.

Surveillance video showed two groups exchanging gunfire, and both individuals arrested were seen shooting, police said. The shooting is under investigation by the NYPD’s Force Investigation Division.

Police identified the 18-year-old suspect as Damien Calhoun, who previously pleaded guilty to attempted murder for a 2024 incident when he was 17.

He had been released from custody in July and was awaiting a November court date in that case, according to NYPD officials. Police said the 18-year-old had a loaded firearm with a 31-round magazine in his bag.

The 15-year-old suspect in custody also has an open violent felony case in Manhattan, police said.
