8 Injured In Manhattan 2-Alarm Fire, FDNY Says

The Red Cross was on scene, providing 18 adults and 10 children with emergency housing and financial aid.

HARLEM, NY — A two-alarm fire in a Harlem apartment building injured eight people, including one firefighter, over the weekend, New York City Fire Department officials said.

According to the FDNY, the fire broke out on the third floor of a five-story apartment building located at 217 West 135th St. between Adam Clayton Powell Jr. Boulevard and Frederick Douglass Boulevard on Saturday at 4:30 a.m.

More than 100 firefighters and medics responded to the scene and got the fire under control around three hours later, at 7:39 a.m., FDNY officials said.

Five civilians and one firefighter were transported to NYC Health + Hospitals/ Harlem with minor and non-life-threatening injuries, and two injured civilians received medical attention at the scene, authorities said.

Fire marshals are investigating the cause, the FDNY said.
