HARLEM, NY — A man died after being run over by a postal truck early Monday morning, according to a preliminary police report.

At around 6 a.m., a 31-year-old was riding on an e-bike along West 122nd Street near Manhattan Avenue when, according to police officials, he lost control of his bike and fell to the ground.

While on the ground, a postal truck driven by a 62-year-old man in the opposite lane ran over him, officials said.

A neighbor told Patch that damage to a parked car — and to the postal truck — tells another probable story.

Sharing photos of a damaged, parked black SUV that the neighbor says was parked near the northwestern corner and crosswalk of West 122nd Street and Manhattan Avenue, the neighbor said "the victim was probably crushed between the postal truck and the parked black suv."

First responders rushed to the scene where they found the victim unconscious and unresponsive, with trauma to his body and head, police said.

Medics brought the man to Mount Sinai Morningside Hospital, where doctors declared the man dead, police said.

The identity of the deceased is being withheld as the police contact the man's family.

In addition to the human-shaped damage on the SUV, the neighbor — who wished to remain anonymous — told Patch that investigators were actively looking for the parked SUV's owner.

The Harlem neighbor hadded that nearby cameras would have captured the tragedy in full from different angles, and may reveal how the man was killed.

Officials said the investigation was ongoing and added that the postal truck driver remained at the scene.
