Dance Theatre Of Harlem Opens Its Doors This Weekend

HARLEM, NY – Dance Theatre of Harlem (DTH) will host its fall open house – a free, family-friendly event – on Sunday, Oct. 6th, at its studios on West 152nd Street in Harlem.

The event, which runs from 12 p.m. to 5:30 p.m., offers a variety of dance classes, studio tours, and performances, and includes an opportunity to “Meet the Ballerina.”

Attendees can try beginner classes in ballet, African dance, salsa, and jazzercise. A special 90-minute ballet master class for intermediate and advanced dancers will be led by Tai Jimenez, director of the DTH School and a former principal dancer with the company.

The day will also feature activities like face painting, pumpkin painting, and tours of DTH’s studios, offering visitors of all kinds a behind-the-scenes glimpse behind the curtain.

A presentation by members of the company will conclude the day’s programming at 5 p.m.

DTH, one of the city’s leading performance arts institution, was founded by Arthur Mitchell and Karel Shook in 1969. The company's studios are located at 466 West 152nd Street, between St. Nicholas and Amsterdam avenues.
