2 Killed In Harlem Shooting Sunday: Police

The teenager died shortly after medics rushed her to the hospital, police said. A few hours later, the man succumbed to his wounds.

HARLEM, NY — A double homicide left two people shot dead in Harlem on Sunday night, police said.

The tragic event happened near East 128th Street and Lexington Avenue, where a man and a teenage woman were shot by an unknown assailant, officials said, just steps from a nearby public school.

That's where first responders found the young woman, Ashley Ballard, 18, shot in the back and head, police said.

Police also found Harry Mendoza, 25, with a gunshot wound to his head, according to officials.

Medics rushed the two gun violence victims to Harlem Hospital, but it was too late.

Ballard was declared dead shortly after arriving to the hospital, officials said.

After two hours of doctors trying to save Mendoza, he was declared dead as well, police said.

According to police, Ballard lived in East Harlem and Mendoza lived in Washington Heights.

Officials said late Sunday night that no arrests have been made and that the investigation remains ongoing.
