Driver Dies In East Harlem Car Crash, Police Say

The East Harlem man was rushed to NYC Health + Hospitals/Harlem in critical condition, where he succumbed to his injuries.

EAST HARLEM, NY — A driver died after crashing into a pillar on an East Harlem roadway on Saturday, New York City Police Department officials said.

According to the NYPD, the 55-year-old man, named Cesar Canarte, was driving a 2018 Honda Pilot at 3:06 a.m. at the southbound Harlem River Drive entrance to the southbound FDR Drive, when his car crashed into a support pillar to the elevated ramp of the RFK Bridge.

Police said Canarte, who is from East Harlem, was rushed to NYC Health + Hospitals/Harlem in critical condition, where he succumbed to his injuries.
