Fire In Harlem's St. Nicholas Houses Injures 3, FDNY Says

HARLEM, NY — An apartment in Harlem's St. Nicholas Houses development was engulfed by flames Tuesday afternoon and three people were hurt, according to fire officials and witness video from the scene.

The fire broke out in a seventh-floor unit at 230 W. 129th St., located between Frederick Douglass and Adam Clayton Powell Jr. boulevards, shortly after 2:15 p.m., an FDNY spokesman said. Twenty fire units with 75 fire and ems personnel responded to the scene, the spokesman said.

Three people suffered minor injuries during the fire, an FDNY spokesman said. Medics rushed two of the injured to St. Luke's Hospital and one to Mount Sinai Hospital.

Firefighters got water on the fire and were able to control the main blaze by 3 p.m., an FDNY spokesman said.

The cause of the fire will be investigated by city fire marshals.
