Harlem Man Killed In New Year's Eve Shooting, Police Say

The man was shot multiple times inside a hotel on West 112 Street.

HARLEM, NY — A man was shot to death inside a Harlem hotel on New Year's Eve just about an hour before the beginning of 2020, police said.

Richard Hall, 27, was shot in the torso in the New Ebony Hotel on West 112th Street between St. Nicholas Avenue and Adam Clayton Powell Jr. Boulevard, police said. Officers responding to an assault call at the hotel found the Harlem man suffering multiple gunshot wounds, police said.

Hall was rushed to Mount Sinai Saint Luke's hospital, but could not be saved, police said.

Police released photos of a suspected gunman on Wednesday. The man was seen leaving the New Ebony Hotel just after the shooting, police said.

The New Year's Eve shooting capped off a 2019 that saw a rise in the number of murder's in Central Harlem's 28th Precinct. Four murders had been reported in the precinct as of Dec. 22, making Tuesday's shooting the fifth. The precinct had zero murders in 2018, according to NYPD crime statistics. The number of shootings in the precinct rose from seven in 2018 to 13 in 2019, according to the crime stats.
