HARLEM, NY — A late Harlem-born DJ earned this weekend the highest honor a New York City street corner can bestow: a sign bearing his name.

West 136th Street between Amsterdam Avenue and Broadway is now DJ Jinx Paul Way.

“Street co-namings are one of the ways in which we as legislators can enshrine the impact of inspiring individuals like DJ Jinx Paul into the City’s streetscape for generations to come," said Council Member Shaun Abreu.

"DJ Jinx Paul gave us the soundtrack to brighten our lives. Now, his legacy will be the blueprint for what it means to dream big and represent New York with pride."

The street is where the La Mega 97.9 radio host grew up, and first dreamed of breaking into New York City's music scene.

Those dreams — realized with help from thousands of fans who tuned into his shows — were cut short in 2019 when he was killed by a hit-and-run driver.

DJ Jinx's name is also enshrined in New York City law.

The DJ Jinx Paul Hit-And-Run Alert System tells New Yorkers within 24 hours of fatal and serious crashes.

“I’m proud to honor DJ Jinx Paul on this co-named street, where his family and the community can celebrate his life and legacy,” said NYC Department of Transportation Commissioner Ydanis Rodriguez.

“Taking this moment to honor the life of DJ Jinx Paul reaffirms that we can and must do more to enhance safety on our roads.”
