Homicide Victim Stabbed In Neck In Harlem Apartment Complex, Police Say

The man succumbed to his injuries three weeks after he was attacked with a knife.

HARLEM, NY — A man died on Aug. 1 after he was stabbed in the neck inside a public housing complex in Harlem in July, New York City Police Department officials said Tuesday.

According to the NYPD, the 58-year-old victim was inside the Rangel Houses, located at 159-14 Harlem River Drive, when he was stabbed in the neck at 11:46 p.m. on July 20.

Police sources told Patch that the victim called 911 himself, and when medics arrived at the scene, the man was rushed to NYC Health + Hospitals/Harlem in critical but stable condition.

The victim, whose identity is being withheld by police until family can be properly notified, succumbed to his injuries on Aug. 1, police said.

The New York City Office of Chief Medical Examiner has deemed this incident a homicide, police said.

One suspect, a 24-year-old man named Lamont Oliphant, was arrested and charged with attempted murder, assault, and criminal possession of a weapon on July 21.
