HARLEM, NY — A man named Abderanman Mayo has been accused of attacking a 70-year-old man on the platform of an A train at 145th Street station, Manhattan District Attorney Alvin Bragg said on Thursday.

According to Bragg, the assault happened back on March 16 at 11 p.m. on the subway platform.

The interaction started when Mayo approached the victim and asked for a cigarette light, Bragg said.

The victim sustained bruising on his face, a cut above his eye and a bloody nose, Bragg said.

“Nobody should have to experience this type of alleged vicious attack on the transit system,” said Bragg. “I hope the victim will continue to recover from his injuries."

Mayo was arrested at the scene and is charged with two counts of assault in the second degree, Bragg said.
