Woman's Sexual Abuser Arrested In Manhattan, Police Say

A man has been arrested less than a week after a woman was bitten and sexually assaulted in Midtown.

MIDTOWN, NY — Police have arrested a man named Joseph Wichard after a week of searching for the man who tried to rape a woman at a nail salon in Midtown, New York City Police Department officials said.

According to the NYPD, the 34-year-old woman was at a nail salon near West 36th Street and Broadway when a man came in and pinned her in a corner on Sept. 1 at 6 p.m., Patch previously reported.

The perpetrator took the victim's pants and underwear off and touched her private parts, police said.

Then, the perpetrator bit the victim on the cheek and attempted to rape her before she fought him off, police said.

The perpetrator ran away in an unknown direction, and when police arrived at the scene, the victim was taken to a local hospital in stable condition, officials said.

Wichard, who is 35, was arrested in Harlem and charged with sexual abuse and attempted rape, police said.

The incident is still under investigation, police said.
