HARLEM, NY — A man was slapped with gun charges after he was initially stopped for a jaywalking summons in Harlem on Thursday afternoon, police said.

Police did not immediately release the name of the person, but said that he was charged with both criminal possession of a firearm and possession of a loaded firearm.

The man was crossing the south east corner of Adam Clayton Powell Jr. Boulevard near West 116th Street against a pedestrian signal at around 7 p.m., police said.

Officers stopped the man to explain the issue and to give him a summons for jaywalking, but the man refused to provide his identification so officers could fill out the ticket, officials said.

The cops then took him into custody so they could sort out who he was, police told Patch.
