Man Lying On Harlem Street Fatally Struck By Car, Police Say
A man, who may have been homeless, was hit and killed by a car in Harlem.
HARLEM, NY — A man lying down on a Harlem street was hit and killed by an elderly driver Thursday night, police said.
Paul Cedres, 58, was lying near the intersection of East 116th Street and St. Nicholas Ave shortly before 7 p.m. when he was struck by a 2008 Saturn being driven by an 81-year-old woman, police said. Medics discovered the man suffering severe injuries and rushed him to Mt. Sinai St. Luke's Hospital where he was pronounced dead, an NYPD spokesperson said.
Cedres' last known address is a homeless shelter in East New York, Brooklyn.

The 81-year-old driver stayed at the scene of the collision and was not charged with a crime, police said. An NYPD investigation into the collision is ongoing.
Cedres' death is the latest fatal collision in a dangerous year for pedestrians and cyclists on New York City streets. New York City Mayor Bill de Blasio announced Monday that the city will crack down on dangerous driving during the holidays after four pedestrians were killed in collision in a 24-hour span last week. Two of the collisions occurred in the Manhattan neighborhoods of Hells Kitchen and SoHo and the other two in the Brooklyn neighborhoods of Park Slope and Sunset Park.
