NYC Subway Weekend Service: Expect Changes On 9 Lines

Expect service changes on the 1, A, D, L, N, Q, R, SR, and SIR trains, the MTA warned straphangers Friday.

NEW YORK CITY, NY — Weekend plans could come with straphanger pangs for riders on multiple New York City subway lines this weekend, according to the MTA.

Service changes are slated for the 1, A, D, L, N, Q, R, SR, and Staten Island Railway trains, the MTA announced Friday.

Here's what you need to know if you plan to swipe your way across the city.

1 Trains Aren't Stopping At South Ferry

Trains are not stopping at South Ferry from 9:45 p.m. Friday to 5 a.m. Monday because of track maintenance.

  • For service to or from South Ferry, take N and R trains to or from Whitehall Street-South Ferry, or take 4 and 5 trains to or from Bowling Green.
    • Transfer between 1 trains and N and R trains at Times Square-42 Street
    • Transfer between 1 trains and 4 and 5 trains by taking 2 and 3 trains between Chambers Street and Fulton Street.
  • M55 bus service is also available between South Ferry, Rector Street and Chambers Street
  • 1 trains are running between Van Cortlandt Park-242 Street and Rector Street

A Trains Aren't Running Between Inwood-207 Street And 168 Street

From 9:45 p.m. Friday to 5 a.m. Monday, trains are not running between 168 Street and Inwood-207 Street in either direction, and trains are not running between 145 Street and 168 Street. This is because of station improvement work.

  • Free shuttle buses are running on Broadway between 168 Street and Inwood-207 Street, and on Fort Washington Avenue between 168 Street and 190 Street. Look for signs outside your station for walking directions to the shuttle bus stop.
  • A trains are running between 168 Street and Far Rockaway/Ozone Park, making local stops at 163 Street-Amsterdam Avenue and 155 Street.
  • C trains are running between 145 Street and Euclid Avenue
  • 1 trains also make nearby stops between 168 Street and 207 Street

D trains Aren't Running Between 34 St-Herald Square And Coney Island-Stillwell Avenue

Trains are not running between 34 Street-Herald Square and Coney Island-Stillwell Avenue from 11:30 p.m. Friday to 5 a.m. Monday because of track replacement work.

  • D trains are running between Norwood-205 Street and 34 Street-Herald Square.
  • Free shuttle buses are running between W 4 Street-Washington Square and Grand Street. Look for signs outside your station for walking directions to the shuttle bus stop.
  • For service to from stations between 34 Street-Herald Square and Broadway-Lafayette Street, take the F train.
  • For service to from stations between Atlantic Avenue-Barclays Center and Coney Island-Stillwell Avenue, take the qtrain.
  • Q trains make all D stops between Atlantic Avenue-Barclays Center and Coney Island-Stillwell Avenue
  • Transfer between D, F, and Q trains at 34 Street-Herald Square.

L Trains Aren't Running Between 8 Avenue And 14 Street-Union Sq

Trains are not running between 8 Avenue and 14 St-Union Square in either direction from 11:45 p.m. Friday to 5 a.m. Monday because of accessibility improvement work.

  • M14A/D-SBS and free L92 shuttle buses provide alternate service at 8 Avenue, 6 Avenue, and 14 Street-Union Square. Transfer between the M14/L92 and L at 14 Street-Union Square.
  • L trains are running between 14 Street-Union Square and Canarsie-Rockaway Parkway.

N Trains Are Rerouted In Brooklyn

From 9:45 p.m. Friday to 5 a.m. Monday, there's no Coney Island-bound N service between 36 Street and Coney Island-Stillwell Avenue. All Coney Island-bound N trains will run on the D between those stations. This is because of track replacement work.

  • For Coney Island-bound service to and from these stations, take a Manhattan-bound train to 62 Street/New Utrecht Avenue or 36 Street, then transfer.

Q Trains Aren't Running Between Atlantic Avenue-Barclays Center And Prospect Park, And Are Rerouted In Brooklyn

From 11:45 p.m. Friday to 5 a.m. Monday, Q trains aren't running between Atlantic Avenue-Barclays Ctr and Prospect Park in either direction, and trains to and from Manhattan are rerouted in Brooklyn.

  • Q trains are running in two sections:
    • Between 96 Street and Atlantic Avenue-Barclays Center, bypassing DeKalb Avenue, then via the D line to and from Coney Island-Stillwell Avenue. Board Q trains on the D platform at Atlantic Avenue-Barclays Center.
    • Shuttle trains are running between Prospect Park and Coney Island-Stillwell Avenue on the Q line. Board Q trains on the Manhattan-bound platform at Prospect Park.
  • Free Q90 shuttle buses are running between Atlantic Av-Barclays Center and Prospect Park, stopping at 7 Avenue. Look for signs outside your station for walking directions to the shuttle bus stop.
  • For service to or from DeKalb Avenue, take N and R trains.

R Trains Are Rerouted Between Manhattan And Queens

From 6:15 a.m. Saturday to 5 a.m. Monday, Queens-bound R trains are running on the Q line from 57 Street-7 Avenue to Lexington Avenue/63 Street, and then via the F line to Jackson Hts-Roosevelt Avenue. This is because of track maintenance and station improvement work.

  • For service to and from 5 Avenue/59 Street and Lexington Avenue/59 St, take the N train.
  • For service to and from Queens Plaza, take the E train.
  • For service to and from local stations between Queens Plaza and Jackson Heights-Roosevelt Avenue, take a Manhattan-bound R train.
  • After 9:45 p.m. each night, the last stop on Queens-bound R trains is Jackson Heights-Roosevelt Avenue. Take E and F trains.
  • Reminder: R trains don't run overnight in Queens.

SR Trains Aren't Running At All

Rockaway Park Shuttle SR trains are not running at all from 5:45 a.m. Saturday to 10 p.m. Sunday because of electrical work.

  • Free shuttle buses are running between Beach 67 Street A and Rockaway Park-Beach 116 Street. Look for signs outside your station for walking directions to the shuttle bus stop.
  • For service to and from Broad Channel, take the A train.

SIR Trains Aren't Running Between Jefferson Avenue And Tottenville

Trains are not running between Jefferson Avenue and Tottenville in either direction from 1 a.m. Saturday to 4 a.m. Monday because of maintenance work.

  • Free shuttle buses are running between Jefferson Avenue and Tottenville. Look for signs outside your station for walking directions to the shuttle bus stop.
  • SIR trains are running between St. George and Jefferson Avenue.
