NYPD Officer Arrested For Drunk Driving In Harlem: Officials

The officer was arrested and charged for driving while intoxicated in Harlem Tuesday night, officials said.

HARLEM, NY — An NYPD officer was arrested and charged with drunk driving in Harlem on Tuesday night, police said.

Officer Jennifer Melendez, 39, was charged with driving while intoxicated, officials said.

An NYPD spokesperson said that the off-duty officer was pulled over near Second Avenue and East 120th Street at around 8:45 p.m.

Melendez was observed as being intoxicated inside the vehicle, officials said, and was arrested at the scene.

The spokesperson could not clarify if the off-duty officer was given a field sobriety test or what the results of a blood-alcohol level test were.

Online NYPD records do not show Melendez listed as an officer and a spokesperson couldn't clarify where she was last assigned or when she joined the department.
