Teen Charged In Fatal Stray Bullet Shooting That Killed NYC Grandmother

The suspect and two other co-conspirators were allegedly robbing a drug dealer nearby before the shooting occurred.

HARLEM, NY — An 18-year-old man has been charged in connection with the fatal shooting of a 69-year-old woman in East Harlem last week.

Faisil McCants was taken into custody on Thursday and is facing federal charges including Hobbs Act robbery and use, carrying, and possession of a machine gun. McCants has been charged with three counts of murder and multiple criminal possession of a weapon counts.

According to the NYPD, Robin Wright was shot on the corner of East 110th Street and Madison Avenue, less than a block from her home.

Medics rushed the victim to Mount Sinai Morningside in critical condition, where she was later pronounced dead.

McCants and two other co-conspirators were allegedly robbing a drug dealer nearby before the shooting occurred. The 18-year-old is accused of pulling out a machine gun and firing at the drug dealer — with one stray bullet striking the 69-year-old Wright.

McCants could be arraigned in federal court on Friday. If convicted, he faces a mandatory minimum sentence of 30 years in prison.
