Huge Fire Breaks Out In E Harlem Public Housing Tower: FDNY
More than 100 firefighters battled flames at a Carver Houses building on East 104th Street.

EAST HARLEM, NY — Flames shot out from a window near the top floor of an East Harlem public housing building early Thursday as firefighters battled a blaze for nearly two hours, an FDNY spokesman said.
The fire broke out in a 14th floor apartment in the George Washington Carver Houses development on the corner of East 104th Street and Madison Avenue shortly after 6:20 a.m., an FDNY spokesman said.
The FDNY's response was upgraded to two alarms — meaning it involved 25 fire units and 106 personnel — when flames began spreading to the 15th floor, the spokesman said.

Firefighters had the blaze under control shortly before 8 a.m., fire officials said. Nobody was hurt during the fire and its cause is currently under investigation, an FDNY spokesman said.
