EAST HARLEM, NY — A man was hospitalized on Tuesday after a car hit him while he was fleeing from gunshots, New York City Police Department officials said.

According to the police, a 40-year-old man was hit by a car while running from gunshots in front of 451 East 116th St. at the corner of Pleasant Avenue at 10:50 a.m. Tuesday.

When police arrived at the scene, they found the victim conscious but injured, and medics took him to NYC Health + Hospitals/Lincoln in the Bronx, authorities said.

The driver remained on the scene, but the person responsible for the gunshots is on the loose, police said.

No arrests have been made and the investigation is ongoing, police said.
