HARLEM, NY — The New York City Subway system is home to all sorts of unruly behavior, but one Harlem train platform recently resembled a dystopian nightmare. A viral video first posted on Facebook this week — and later copied on platforms such as Twitter and Instagram — caught the chaos unfold.

The video begins with a man scavenging for trash in the subway tracks, picking up objects while precariously straddling the electrified third rail. Second later, the videographer pans over to catch the breakout of an intense fight. Two men slug each other and get dangerously close to the platform's edge before one of the fighters tosses his opponent head first into the tracks.

"Oh my god!" onlookers shout as the man is thrown down several feet. The fighter is down for a moment before springing back to his feet. As he attempts to climb back onto the platform, the video ends.

It's unclear exactly which Harlem subway station is shown in the video, but signs read "125th Street." An NYPD spokesman told Patch that the department does not have any records of an assault matching the video or description of the fight.

As of Friday morning, the video has been viewed nearly 170,000 times on Facebook.
