HARLEM, NY - A 24-year-old woman was hospitalized following a violent cell phone robbery in an uptown subway car last week, authorities said.

The 24-year-old victim was on a northbound “B” train approaching the 145 Street subway station on Sept. 20 about 9:45 p.m. when she was approached by an individual who pulled her hair, punched her in the face and knocked her to the ground, police said.

The assailant grabbed the victim’s cell phone and then fled the station, police said.

The victim sustained bruising to the face and lacerations to the hand as a result of the attack, police said. Medics transported her to NYC Health + Hospitals/Harlem in stable condition.

As of Wednesday, New York City has 12,107 reported robberies incidents so far in 2023, according to city data. That's down about 5.5 percent from the same time the previous year.

In the 30th precinct where the shooting took place, police have seen 92 robbery incidents so far in 2023. That’s compared to 99 in 2022.
