Harrison sophomore Erica Dattero has been selected as the high school’s representative for this year’s Hugh O’Brian Youth (HOBY) Leadership Seminar held in June.

For nearly 55 years, the HOBY organization has brought together students from all over the country who are passionate about inspiring and developing the global community through leadership, service and innovation.

“I like influencing people to do the right thing,” said Dattero.

She has made the most of that infectious spirit. As a dedicated volunteer for the Port Chester Carver Center or a member of the Youth Volunteers of Harrison, Dattero has spearheaded many successful volunteer campaigns. For a community hat and glove drive, she was able to secure more than 600 items. She has also initiated and implemented other large scale projects such as painting parts of the Carver Center and raising money for a new playground.

“I’ve always been a hands-on kind of person,” said Dattero. “I really like 'doing something' and that usually means taking on large projects and seeing them from beginning to end.”

Harrison High School has been sending students to the HOBY seminar for more than 30 years, including last year’s representative, junior Mikie Sakanaka. This year’s seminar will be held June 8-10 at Adelphi University.
