Harrison's Samuelson a Finalist for ESPN Scholarship

School of the Holy Child senior and Harrison resident Kathleen Samuelson is in the running for a $5,000 scholarship courtesy of ESPN New York and Melrose Credit Union. 

The duo has teamed up to partner on a scholarship program where Melrose awards a $5,000 scholarship to one college-bound scholar-athlete who excels on the playing field, in the classroom and in the community.

As one of four honorees nominated between September and December 2011, Samuelson is "a great leader and a role model on and off the field," said Jon Pizzi, School of the Holy Child director of athletics. 

A varsity softball, field hockey and basketball player, Samuelson has a 4.14 GPA and plans to attend Brown University in the fall where she will play softball.

Samuelson currently serves as student body president, member of the National Honor Society and the Model UN team, and plays trumpet in Holy Child's instrumental ensemble.

She is also active in the community, volunteering at various organizations including The Ward Summer Learning Camp, Part of the Solution (POTS), Dinner at Noon, Homework Helpers and Resurrection Parish Religious Education Program (PREP).

According to ESPN and Melrose, the scholarship winner will be announced in the coming weeks.
