United Way of Harrison-Purchase is pleased to announce the 2012 Harrison Local Presence Program grant recipients, The Harrison Youth Council, Inc. and The Children’s Hope Chest.
More than $1,600 in grants was awarded following the recommendations of United Way Local Presence Committee Members.

These modest grants, awarded by United Way’s Local Presence Program, help fund local community-based human and health service organizations that do not currently receive United Way funding. Organizations that receive funding share with United Way the fundamental belief that education, income and health are essential for a better life.
The Harrison Youth Council, Inc. is a not-for-profit corporation dedicated to providing a broad range of mental health and social services to at-risk children, teens and families within the Harrison community. This organization provides research-based educational prevention programs, parent support groups, presentations, and provides professional support through individual, family and group counseling, as well as consultation and referral for families within the Harrison community. The Council will be utilizing this grant funding to support education on the issues of use and misuse of cyberspace by children and teenagers.

The Children’s Hope Chest operates in the Westchester community to help children and families in need. By promoting volunteerism and encouraging the participation of children, CHC develops programs with partner organizations to provide hope to those in need and initiate social action. This year, the Chest will utilize the Local Presence Grant funds to support a Food Drive for the Carver Center, a local food pantry in Port Chester.
