Ceremony Marks Banner Year at HHS
Students, faculty and the board of education celebrate the students that made this year successful.
From the award-winning school band that traveled the country promoting Harrison pride, to the model congress that took home too many awards for one person to carry, this has certainly been a great year for Harrison High School.
Students that made this year what it was were honored Wednesday evening at the Harrison High School Performing Arts Center, in a ceremony that crammed a year's worth of accomplishments into one meeting.

From their weekend performances at almost every town parade or function to their endless support at Harrison sporting events, the HHS band has become an icon of school spirit in Harrison.
The group was honored for this and , where the band took home the prestigious best overall band and spirit awards.

Also honored were Bryan Jacobowitz, Ryan Polokoff and Jacob Seidman who took home individual awards at the event.
The Debate Team
In only two years of existence Harrison's debate team has flourished thanks to a small group of dedicated students and staff. Harrison's top six debaters were honored for their work at both the varsity and novice divisions.
Members of the team have made a very quick improvement over the last two years, including a at the NYSDCA tournament at Brooklyn Tech earlier this spring.
Moody's Challenge Team
Harrison's five-member Moody's Math Challenge team was honored for their performance in the internet-based math problem solving event.
The team was given 14 hours to solve a complex math equation downloaded from the internet, and was one of only two teams in Westchester County to advance through the first round.
The Student Government
Harrison's student government was honored for its work with various school activities throughout the year. Along with planning events such as prom and a student-teach day in December, the student government worked with local and national fundraisers over the course of the year.
Every grade at Harrison High School has representatives in the student government, who are elected annually.
Model Congress
Harrison's model congress team was honored for their top-tier performances throughout the year, including a trip to the Penn University model congress where the team .
At Penn University the model congress worked with more than 700 students from all over the country and took home more awards than any other school.
Scholar Athletes
This year 24 of Harrison's 29 varsity sports teams were recognized as scholar athlete teams. The teams earn scholar athlete status by having a designated number of student-athletes maintain a grade point average above a 90 percent. Designates from each team were honored at Wednesday evening's ceremony.
National Merit Scholarship
Students competing for the National Merit Scholarship were also recognized. Participating students enter based on achievement in the PSAT, and only the top percentage of students in the country are considered for the award.
