Downtown Facelift Underway on Halstead Avenue
Harrison Department of Public Works crews are out this week clearing sidewalks and trimming tree limbs in an effort to create a more appealing downtown.

It's the little things that count.
At least that's part of the Town/Village of Harrison's short-term plan to help rejuvenate its downtown shopping district in an effort to draw more shoppers to Halstead Avenue.
Department of public works crews are out this week trimming trees and clearing sidewalks along Halstead Avenue across the downtown business district. On Thursday, crews were using a lift and chainsaws to clear tree limbs along the road from 1st to Oak Street.

The cleaning effort, which is expected to continue into the March, is part of an effort by the town following discussions with a newly formed Downtown Revitalization Committee, which hopes to work with merchants to create both short and long term goals to improve business.
Harrison Mayor/Supervisor Ron Belmont has been pushing these types of small, aesthetic improvements as an option for improving the look of the town without a major financial investment.
