Former Police Chief Candidate Retires

Lt. Lawrence Marshall officially left the department on March 15.

A finalist to become chief of the Harrison Police Department less than two years ago, Lieutenant Lawrence Marshall officially retired March 15.

Marshall had given years of service to the department, said Police Chief Anthony Marraccini, who came up in the local police ranks at about the same time.

"When I look back, Lieutenant Marshall and I grew up together on the job," Marraccini said to the Town Board when the retirement was announced in February. "He was an instrumental part in the daily operation of the department, many successful aspects of our job, and he had a tremendous amount of integrity."

When then Police Chief David Hall in 2009, Marshall was one of . When Hall left, Marraccini was named interim chief while the town board decided between him, Marshall and Lt. Douglas Buschel. 

All three candidates for the chief position, but on March 25, 2010, the board with a 3-2 party-line vote. Since then, Marshall has continued to serve as a lieutenant until his retirement this week.

"I am saddened that he is not coming back," Marraccini said to the board. "He has absolutely made a difference in people's lives and the quality of life in this town and I appreciate his service."
