Harrison Summer Concert Series Starts July 4

Town organizers are hoping to open up this year's summer concert series with a bang.

The 2012 concert series will begin downtown on the Fourth of July, with fireworks following a performance by Reunion at the intersection of Oakland and Halstead Avenues. The town's annual fireworks show will follow the performance at 9:30 p.m.

A local favorite, has been a big draw at the concert series for the last few years.

After the first show on July 4, Harrison's summer concerts will be held twice a week, with one performnce held at Riis Park downtown and the other held on the West Harrison green.

Performances will be held downtown on Wednesday evenings and in West Harrison on Thursday nights. All shows start at 7:45 p.m.

The town will also offer summer movie screenings on August 22 at the and on August 23 at the Ron Belmont Pool in West Harrison. Movie titles have not been decided, but each screening will also start at 7 p.m.

Harrison's full summer entertainment schedule, according to the Recreation Department:

• July 4 - Reunion at Oakland and Halstead Ave. (fireworks to follow).
• July 5 - N.Y. Music (Italian Favorites) in West Harrison

• July 11 - Wanderers (50s and 60s favorites) at Riis Park
• July 12 - Moonlight Cruisers (50s through 90s pop) in West Harrison

• July 18 - I- 40 Band (Country, Rock Blues) at Riis Park
• July 19 - Rat Race Choir (Progressive Rock) in West Harrison

• July 25 - Counterfeit Society (Rock/Metal) at Riis Park
• July 26 - Sundown Band (Southern Rock)

• August 1 - Magic Touch (Acapella 50s and 60s) at Riis Park
• August 2 - Alive and Kicking (Gold Record Party Band) in West Harrison

• August 8 - Day Camp Performance in Riis Park
• August 9 - Day Camp Performance in West Harrison

• August 15 - Club Dennis in Riis Park
• August 16 - Reddy Valentino Orchestra (Big Band) in West Harrison

• August 22 - Movie at Brentwood Pool
• August 23 - Movie at Ron Belmont Pool
