Harrison Track Impressive at State Championships

The track and field team had two teams qualify in the top three in the public school state championships.

Harrison senior Zaid Al Doori finished his high school track career with an impressive 49.07 time in the 400m dash this weekend, good enough for the second best time for a New York public school student and the third best time in the state overall.

The New York State championships were held in Rochester, NY. Final times are split into public schools, which compete for the NYSPHSAA title, and the NYS Federation Championship, which includes public, private, catholic and PSAL schools.

The boys 4x100m relay team placed second in the public school ranks and sixth in the Federation Championship with a time of 42.61. The team of Al Doori, Rob Merritt, Gary Castelli and Ben Konigsberg also finished sixth in the public rankings and eight overall in the boys 4x400m relay with a time of 3:22.54. Track and field coach Kathleen Zanot called this weekend Harrison's best showing to date at the state level.

The event caps off an impressive spring season for the track and field team, which collectively finished with one of the top rankings in New York State.
