Local Band to Jumpstart July 4 Celebration

The Harrison Summer Concert Series has always been kind to local band Reunion.

A 10-member group that got its start in the late '60s, Reunion has opened the town's outdoor summer concert series for the last few years. Their ties to the community—many of the band's members are from Harrison—and on-stage talents have been well received during performances in Harrison and West Harrison so far.

"The people always appreciate us here, all the time," Joe Marcone, the band's keyboardist, said in an interview after .

So it was no surprise when Recreation Department Supervisor Gerry Salvo and his staff selected Reunion to kick-off the Fourth of July festivities this Wednesday downtown.

Reunion will play a free concert at the intersection of Harrison and Halstead Ave. starting Wednesday at 7:45 p.m. The performance will be followed by a at 9:30 p.m.

Although the summer concert series typically begins within a week of the Fourth of July, the town decided to merge the start of the summer concert series with the holiday this year. Instead of opening the outdoor concert series at , the performance will take place further downtown, where the fireworks display is held.

A tradition in Harrison for more than 20 years, the summer concert series will continue twice a week for the rest of the summer, with one performance held at Riis Park downtown and the other held on the West Harrison green.

Three new bands were scheduled this year, including Alive N' Kickin', which has sold more than 6 million records, Sundown, a premiere southern rock band, and Counterfeit Society.

Shows will be held on Wednesday and Thursday nights at 7:45 p.m.
