Rain Leaves Playoff Baseball Game in Limbo
The Harrison baseball team will resume its matchup with Pearl River in the second inning Wednesday afternoon. Tuesday's softball game was also pushed back.
The dark skies only allowed Harrison's Section 1 playoff game against Pearl River to last until the bottom of the second inning Tuesday afternoon. The teams will resume play on Wednesday with Harrison leading 1 - 0 in the bottom of the second inning.
Harrison scored on a deep first inning home run by Michael Chiarella, which proved the be the only hit of the abbreviated game. Michael DeLacy came within a few feet of making it back-to-back home runs before he was robbed by a great defensive play.
On the defensive side, Harrison starter Max Bruckner navigated through a difficult first inning. After hitting a batter and walking another, the sophomore induced a fly ball to center field to get out of trouble.

Pearl River starting pitcher Anthony Calise settled down in the second, retiring Harrison in order.
In the bottom half of the frame Pearl River's Calise reached first base on an error before moving to second. With two outs and a full count on the batter, the skies opened up and play was postponed. After a 15-minute delay, section officials decided to postpone the game until Wednesday afternoon.

The game will resume at that point at 4:30 on Wednesday at Pearl River High School.
Neither starting pitcher worked to a very high pitch count, but it will be interesting to see if Bruckner and Calise return to the hill when play resumes on Wednesday.
The Harrison softball team also had their Tuesday playoff game against Hendrick Hudson moved to Wednesday. That game is scheduled for 4:30 at Harrison High School. Ace pitcher Ashley Marino is expected to start for Harrison, but with the team now forced to play on back-to-back days, Head Coach Dean Marino will have a decision to make as to whether or not he will hold off his star pitcher to keep her fresh for later rounds.
Harrison defeated Hendrick Hudson 1 - 0 when they played in the regular season.
Clear skies are expected on Wednesday afternoon, so we will have playoff updates available after the games have been played.
