White Plains Officials React to Wednesday's Fire
White Plains officials react to the Wednesday afternoon fire that put more than 30 people in the hospital and burned seven stores beyond recognition.
Approximately 33 people were hospitalized after a fire ripped through a city block on East Post Road and Court Street in White Plains Wednesday afternoon. It began in the popular Indian restaurant, Bengal Tiger.
Most of the injuries were a result of heat exhaustion and all but one had been released by Thursday morning, according to White Plains Mayor Adam Bradley. The fire destroyed seven businesses and damaged several others while authorities battled the blaze into Wednesday evening.
The fire was so powerful that it was still smoldering while officials held a press conference on Thursday afternoon. (See video.)
