News Nearby: Staff Sues Head of Harbor Billionaire for Watering Down Wages

Former household staff members are suing a Head of the Harbor billionaire for stiffing them on wages because they failed to close doors or make sure hanging pictures were level at his palace on the Long Island Sound.

Robert Mercer, co-chief executive officer of Setauket hedge fund Renaissance, is accused of taking money from household staff’s for each time they failed to replace a shampoo bottles, properly close doors and other service tasks around the mansion.

Cuomo Signs Fire Sprinkler Act in Honor of Commack Native

A Commack native killed in an off-campus housing fire near Marist College will forever be remembered in a new state law aimed as helping others avoid the same fate.

Gov. Andrew Cuomo signed the Kerry Rose Sprinkler Notification Act on Thursday, creating a new law that requires public and private colleges in New York to provide students with written information on fire safety and sprinkler systems in college-owned or operated housing.

From Kings Park: Good Samaritans Rescue 3 at Kings Park Bluff

A family of three were pulled out of the waters by a few good samaritans on Monday after their 8 foot inflatable boat got swept up by a current and became stuck under the dock.

Kings Park Fire Chief Mark O'Brien said his department got a call of three people drowning at the Kings Park Bluff at about 2 p.m. Luckily, said O'Brien, a few brave a quick thinking people at the docks pulled them to safety.

Gaffney, 34, a Poquott resident by way of Boston, will head to Iceland next week to challenge himself to complete the event, which begins Aug. 4. While he kids about the grueling competition, he says he recognizes the enormity of the challenge. "I think it will be the hardest thing I’ve ever done," he said.
