- Police arrested a 21-year-old woman, Christina Darling for an anti-Semitic hate crime after she shouted slurs at three Jewish children in front of a synagogue in Marina Park, Brooklyn. Darling studies psychology and education at St. Francis College in Brooklyn Heights, and a petition asking for her expulsion was signed by over 2,000 students out of a total enrollment of just 2,735. - Brooklynites collectively mourn the loss of the Regal Cinema on Court Street, which abruptly went dark Jan. 16. According to numerous accounts, the movie theater was a hub of Black culture, used heavily by shoppers in Downtown Brooklyn which has rapidly gentrified in recent years.
