Family & Children’s Association (FCA), one of Long Island’s largest nonprofit health and human services organizations, recently received $265,000 in start-up funding from New York State to establish a new Certified Community Behavioral Health Clinic (CCBHC) in Nassau and Suffolk counties. This funding, part of a $3.5 million start-up grant from the New York State Office of Mental Health, will establish 13 Certified Community Behavioral Health Clinics across the state, with 6 located downstate and 7 upstate.

Certified Community Behavioral Health Clinics provide comprehensive services and coordinate care across behavioral, physical health, and social service systems. These clinics ensure that everyone, no matter their financial situation, where they live, or their age, can access mental health and substance use services.

“FCA is excited to have obtained this competitive funding. We extend our gratitude to New York State and eagerly anticipate being able to better meet the increasing demand for integrated mental health and substance use disorder services for Long Islanders,” said FCA President and CEO Dr. Jeffrey Reynolds. “People often struggle with mental health conditions, substance use disorders and accessing general health care simultaneously. They shouldn't have to travel to three different locations to get complete care.”

FCA currently runs two clinics, located in Hempstead and Hicksville, that serve individuals and families. By adding the Certified Community Behavioral Health Clinic designation to each clinic, FCA can bridge the service gap for all Long Islanders in each location. This designation, expected to be completed by July 1, 2025, will provide comprehensive care across an individual’s lifespan.
