Services Set For Hicksville Man Killed In Crash: 'Robbie Brought Joy Wherever He Went'

Robert Dwyer died on Nov. 19 as a pedestrian in a crash, police say — and his family and friends are paying tribute.

HICKSVILLE, NY — Services have been set for Robert D. Dwyer, who died on Nov. 19, leaving behind loved ones with his stories and glowing spirit.

His family, including his sister, Mary Dwyer-Johnson, put together a few words to share as part of his tribute: "With a heart too big to measure and a sense of humor that could brighten even the darkest days, Robbie brought joy wherever he went," she said.

She added: "He loved playing baseball, telling the best stories, and spending time with his nieces and nephews, especially during those epic Wii game competitions. Around the fire, he was the storyteller, jokester, the spark that kept everyone smiling. His spirit will forever glow like his campfire flames."

According to his obituary, posted on the Dignity Memorial website, his family shared that Robert was a beloved son, brother, uncle, and friend with a larger-than-life spirit.

"Rob loved baseball, cheering on his New York Jets and Mets, and spending time outdoors," the obituary states. "His greatest joy was camping with family, where he was known as the master of the campfire—bringing stories, light, and laughter to every gathering."

He was the son of Karen and Robert Dwyer, a volunteer at the Hicksville Fire Department.

He was the brother of Mary (Chris) and Meghan, and the uncle to Hunter and Rylie.

"Though he left us too soon, his glow will never fade," the obituary states. "Rob will continue to shine brightly through every campfire flame and every memory shared by those who loved him. May he rest in peace."

Visitation will be held on Friday, Nov. 21, from 2 p.m. to 4:30 p.m. and from 7 p.m. to 9:30 p.m., and according to the Dignity Memorial website, he is in the care of Vernon C. Wagner Funeral Homes.

A funeral mass will take place at St. Ignatius Loyola RC Church, located at 129 Broadway, Hicksville, on Saturday, Nov. 22, from 11:15 a.m. to 12:15 p.m.
