Anyone driving through parts of Huntington Station or near Heckscher Park on July 4 would have seen the scores of fireworks peppering the sky.
While it is possible to obtain a permit for a private fireworks display, the regulations are strict, requiring expensive insurance, operator certification and more. On July 4, fireworks were going off in backyards, in parking lots or streets, in many cases near houses or businesses.
And in some neighborhoods, residents shoot off firecrackers or fireworks for days before the Fourth of July or for other holidays.
Do you think the town of Huntington or the Suffolk County police should crack down on the use of fireworks?Â
