Bagpiper Makes Special Trip to Perform for Disabled Son

Father Makes Sure Son is Included in Huntington St. Patrick's Day Parade Fun

Brian Bennett is a professional bagpiper. St. Patrick’s Day is a big celebration for Brian and his family.

This year, he was excited to perform in the Huntington St. Patrick’s Day parade. But there was one important person missing from the audience – his son, Robert.

Robert lives with intellectual and developmental disabilities and resides full-time in a Kinexion group home within town. There he is provided round-the-clock care, socialization and many, many activities within the community. It is a setting that Brian knows is the best for his child. But he also didn’t want him to miss out on the St. Patrick’s Day fun.

Brian and his band visited Robert and his friends after the parade for a special private performance.

“It was so special for me and the guys to perform for Robert and his friends,” said Brian Bennett. “St. Patrick’s Day is our family’s biggest holiday of the year, and we knew we had to find a way for him to join in on the fun of parade day. Robert really enjoyed listening to the music and trying the instruments. It was a day we will both remember for a long time.”
