Man Killed, Son Seriously Injured In Huntington Station House Fire: Police

Firefighters from five departments responded to the late-night blaze on Depot Road, police said.

HUNTINGTON STATION, NY — A man was killed and his adult son was seriously injured in a house fire late Sunday night in Huntington Station, Suffolk County police said.

Officers responded to a home on Depot Road at approximately 11:15 p.m. after receiving a 911 call reporting a fire, police said. Five fire departments responded and worked to extinguish the blaze.

Police said 82-year-old Barry Garfman, a resident of the home, was pronounced dead at the scene.

His son, Dustin Garfman, 42, who also lived at the residence, was transported to Huntington Hospital and later transferred to Stony Brook University Hospital, where he remains in serious condition, police said.

Detectives from the Suffolk County Police Department’s Homicide Squad and Arson Section are investigating the cause of the fire. Police said the fire does not appear to be criminal in nature at this time.
