Centerport Made Safer For Family Of Bald Eagles
Protective equipment was installed on two nearby power poles thanks to concerned bird enthusiasts.
PSEG Long Island worked with a group of local residents and officials to make the area safer for one of the most famous families in Centerport.
The family consists of two adult bald eagles and their eaglets who hatched in April. A dedicated number of residents have documented the eagle's residency in the area, from the parents snatching an alarming number of eels out of the harbor to the eaglets taking flight for the first time.
After seeing one of the eaglets perching on a nearby power pole, these bird enthusiasts sought out the help of Legis. William Spencer to get protective equipment installed.

PSEG responded in two days and installed the equipment on two poles.
“We were excited to hear that these majestic birds were raising their young here on Long Island, and we are proud to help ensure the next generation of our national bird thrives by installing protective equipment,” said Patrick Hession, electric division manager at PSEG Long Island.

The bald eagles, the national animal of the United States of America, will be able to enjoy their new perch during the nation’s 242nd birthday on Wednesday.

“Centerport is already a picturesque place and the presence of these birds only adds to its beauty,” Spencer said. “I was happy to play a role in the community effort to protect the eaglets that thousands of residents have come to treasure."
Bruce Adams, chairman of the Committee to Protect Centerport’s Bald Eagles thanked Spencer and PSEG for prioritizing the safety of these birds. “These fledgling eaglets are just learning to fly, and we look forward to seeing them for another two months or so before they set out on their own," he said.
